Job Description

Elasticsearch & Observability Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Elasticsearch & Observability Engineer to join our team in Lisbon.

You will be responsible for designing, maintaining and improving our Elastic Stack and observability solutions, working across Mainframe, Open Systems and Container environments. The role combines hands-on technical work, production support, collaboration with different teams and continuous improvement of the observability platform.

What You'll Do

- Design, build, maintain and support the Elastic Stack: Beats, Elastic Agents, Logstash, Elasticsearch and Kibana.

- Develop and implement observability solutions for applications across Mainframe, Open Systems and Container platforms.

- Monitor and optimize platform performance, indexing, log retention and data lifecycle.

- Manage secure access, authentication and RBAC controls.

- Work closely with development, architecture and operations teams to integrate observability into applications and CI/CD processes.

- Define best practices for monitoring, alerting, dashboards and application observability.

- Support production environments, including incident management, troubleshooting, Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and P1/P2 incidents.

- Support release activities and continuous delivery processes.

- Evaluate new Elastic features and technologies and help evolve the observability platform.

- Work with stakeholders to understand requirements, estimate effort and contribute to technical roadmaps.

- Share knowledge and mentor other team members, helping drive the adoption of observability practices.

What You'll Need

- University degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a similar technical field.

- 2+ years of experience in IT, particularly in observability and production support.

- Strong hands-on experience with the Elastic Stack.

- Good understanding of observability concepts, including logs, metrics, traces, golden signals, dashboards, log analysis and alerting.

- Experience with OpenTelemetry.

- Experience with CI/CD tools, such as Git, Bitbucket, Jenkins, UCD and Ansible.

- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.

- Knowledge of REST APIs and system integration.

- Good understanding of Linux and Windows environments.

- Experience with Agile methodologies, incident management and release management.

- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working across different technical teams.

- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset.

- English C1 — mandatory, both written and spoken.

- Availability for on-call support and scheduled overtime when required.

- Based in Lisbon, with a hybrid working model and availability to work within CET hours.

Nice to Have

- Elasticsearch certification.

- Knowledge of Microsoft Azure.

- Mainframe experience.

- Experience working in regulated environments, such as Financial Services.

- Knowledge of French and/or Dutch.

- Experience with Jira, Confluence, ServiceNow and MS Office.
