Role Overview:
As a Platform Engineer, you will support the vision of building and supporting a global platform to run Planet's payment and revenue generating services through an infrastructure-as-code approach to managing technology, focusing on cloud transformation. Reporting to the Director of Platform Delivery, the Platform Engineer will support the build out of our global infrastructure; optimize, monitor, and scale platform infrastructure; and configure and deploy new workloads across Hybrid, Multi-Cloud environments. You will be part of the Infrastructure Operations team who ensure performance, reliability, and scale for Planet’s payment platforms. You will join a team committed to continuous learning, open communication, shared responsibility, and collaborative problem solving.
What you will do:
Build, configure, document, and deploy Infrastructure and systems supporting Planet's application and services.
Solve technical problems in collaboration with colleagues from the technology teams as well as functional stakeholders.
Develop an internal platform (IDP) to enable a fast, reliable, and secure path for all technology teams.
Identify opportunities for continuous service improvement and implement any relevant configuration changes.
Participate in capacity planning, disaster recovery planning, and cost optimization initiatives.
Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies
Who you are:
Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible preferrable).
Good scripting knowledge (Python, Go, bash, PowerShell).
Functional knowledge of Linux/Windows system administration.
Comfortable with deploying and maintaining cloud workloads.
Familiar with Infrastructure as Code (e.g.: terraform).
Experience with Observability and Monitoring tools.
Understands SDLC, knows how to build CI/CD pipelines (GitHub, Azure DevOps).
Analytical thinking and problem-solving mindset.
Communication and team skills.
