Back End Developer

We're looking for a

Senior Backend Engineer (Python & Rust)

to join KWAN on a project where cutting-edge robotics meets cloud-native infrastructure at scale. This is a

Hybrid

challenge for residents in Portugal with 2 office days per week.

The Challenge:

Build and evolve the backend services that power a fleet management platform for Autonomous Mobile Robots, operating in real-world industrial and logistics environments;

Architect and deliver production-grade microservices and event-driven systems that keep robot fleets navigating reliably at scale;

Code daily - building significant features independently, debugging production issues, and owning them through to resolution;

Turn complex distributed systems requirements into clean, fault-tolerant APIs and services with observability and resilience built in from the ground up;

Guide junior engineers through code reviews and contribute hands-on within a high-performing, cross-functional team spanning Frontend, Robotics, DevOps, Product and QA.

What you bring to the table:

5+ years of strong backend engineering experience with a proven track record of delivering production-quality software;

Hands-on expertise with

Rust and Python

in the context of complex, large-scale codebases;

Deep understanding of distributed systems - microservices, event-driven and message-based architectures, and high-availability design;

Solid experience with Kubernetes, containerized deployments, and cloud-native development;

A quality-first mindset, with practical experience in automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and secure software development;

Portugal based.
