Software Engineer in Test (SDET)

  • €42.000 - €54.000

Job Description

We are looking for a technically strong Test Automation Engineer / Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to help build and develop the Portuguese team's automated testing capability.

You will work within an experienced engineering team, collaborating with developers to validate functionality, investigate issues, and improve confidence in delivery. Your initial focus will be on automation frameworks, test suites, and supporting pipelines. As these mature, you will contribute to ongoing delivery and broader engineering activities while maintaining a strong focus on quality.

The team uses both traditional and AI-assisted development. You will help verify that software, including code produced with coding agents, behaves correctly and meets the intended requirements.

Your responsibilities

- Establish and evolve automation frameworks, with Playwright as a key tool, and write reusable, maintainable testing components.

- Design, develop, and maintain automated UI, API, integration, and end-to-end test suites; integrate test execution into development and delivery pipelines.

- Validate requirements and workflows across web applications, APIs, integrations, and service-oriented systems, including the impact of changes on connected services.

- Investigate defects and test failures, identify root causes, and work with developers to resolve issues and improve the reliability of automated coverage.

- Communicate testing outcomes and quality concerns clearly, and collaborate on testability, coverage, architecture, and implementation decisions.

- Build on the team's existing unit, UI, and integration testing and take responsibility for validating assigned deliverables.

- Validate AI-assisted implementations against requirements, use appropriate productivity tools, and understand the code and tests you deliver.

- Learn Intelliflo's financial advice workflows, including client information, onboarding, risk-related processes, and integrations, to develop meaningful tests and contribute to product discussions.

What you bring

- Strong hands-on experience with Playwright or a comparable automation framework such as Selenium.

- Experience testing distributed web applications, APIs, and service-oriented systems, including UI, API, integration, and end-to-end automation.

- Practical programming skills and the ability to write, review, debug, and maintain automation code.

- Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills, and an understanding of architecture, development approaches, and system design.

- Professional written and spoken English, and the ability to explain your projects, contributions, and technical decisions clearly.

- An aptitude for learning the Financial Advice domain, contributing to product discussions, and adapting to AI-assisted engineering tools.

We welcome different programming and engineering backgrounds. The platform and technical assessment involve C#/.NET; practical web engineering skills and the ability to learn are central to our assessment. No particular degree or certifications are required.

Good to have

- Experience with k6 or comparable performance and load-testing tools.

- Experience with C#/.NET applications and web APIs.

- Experience in financial services, fintech, or other complex business domains.

- Familiarity with Claude Code or other AI coding assistants.

What success looks like:

You will learn the product and help establish automation frameworks, suites, and pipelines. Success means maintainable coverage, reliable test execution, clear validation against requirements, effective defect resolution, and confidence in traditional and AI-assisted changes through close collaboration with developers.

Why join this team:

- Help shape automation in an established team working on a substantial financial technology platform.

- Combine engineering and technical investigation with testing complex workflows and integrations.

- Gain practical experience with AI-assisted development and its quality challenges.

- Learn from experienced colleagues and develop your technical and product expertise.

Remarks:

Compensation (gross monthly salary): €3,750 - €4,850 (Mid/Senior Level). The role is typically placed around €4,300 gross/monthly, depending on the experience and scope. Final placement within the band is determined by objective assessment against role requirements.
