Senior Backend Engineer

Join the innovative payment fraud team at Riskified as a Senior Backend Engineer, where you will play a pivotal role in our rapidly growing department. This position offers the opportunity to work in an Agile environment, utilizing advanced technologies to create impactful Fin Tech solutions. You will be instrumental in expanding Riskified's ecosystem, collaborating with both clients and internal teams to drive meaningful improvements in our services. This encompasses everything from the initial planning stages, where you will work closely with Product and Design teams, to selecting appropriate technologies, designing code architecture, conducting pull request reviews, and overseeing deployment in a CI/CD environment. Additionally, you will be responsible for monitoring systems post-deployment. Our technology stack includes Scala, Node.Js, AWS, Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, Spark, and Aerospike, allowing you to engage with a variety of tools and frameworks in your daily work.

Key facts

Location: Lisbon Engagement: Full-time What you'll do Design and implement scalable architectures for machine learning systems and platforms. Participate in large-scale projects that involve both real-time and batch processing, utilizing a range of programming languages and technologies. Conduct daily code deployments to production using sophisticated CI/CD tools. Contribute significantly to the end-to-end development of products that enhance Riskified's core offerings.

Collaborate with engineering and product management teams to brainstorm, design, and execute new features across the product landscape. Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code while adhering to best practices in software development. Mentor and coach junior developers, fostering a culture of learning and collaboration within the team.

Engage in post-deployment monitoring and troubleshooting to ensure system reliability and performance. Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve our development processes. Actively participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field. A minimum of 7 years of hands‑on experience in server-side development. Strong self‑directed learning skills and a proactive approach to software development. Commitment to writing clean, SOLID, and resilient code. Proficiency in Scala or Java, with practical experience in these languages. Experience with database technologies, both SQL and No SQL. Familiarity with stream processing applications is a plus. Ability to work effectively with common AI tools and frameworks. Passion for mentoring and guiding fellow developers. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Nice to have

Experience with cloud services, particularly AWS. Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes. Familiarity with machine learning concepts and applications. Previous experience in a Fin Tech environment. Understanding of Agile methodologies and practices. The final salary will be determined based on individual skills, experience, and competencies.
